CLASSICAL COMFORTS
Transitional style is a marriage of traditional and modern furniture, finishes, materials and fabrics. The result is an elegant, enduring design that is both comfortable and classic.
CLASSICAL COMFORTS
You can't rely on color to punch up a transitional space, but texture rises to the challenge admirably. Coarsely woven fabrics, natural fibers and a blend of matte and shiny finishes lend a sense of layering and help the room pop.
A SOLID FOUNDATION
Flooring tends to be a background player in transitional rooms. It's less about the material and more about the color — you can go with natural woods, as long as they're kept to a subtle, restrained palette.
MUTED PALETTES
The transitional look won't necessarily suit color junkies. Warm neutrals rule: cream, taupe, tan, khaki, gray, with the occasional hint of chocolate or espresso brown thrown in to ground the palette.
RUSTIC REVIVAL
Rustic Modern embraces rustic charm and warmth with modern amenities. concept brings the great outdoors, indoors. Reflecting an organic environment while embracing modern lines and textures that feel both fresh and real; light and grounded.
MODERN FURNITURE
The whole point of this style is to get all the charm and warmth of a rustic dwelling, with all of the conveniences and style of a modern home. So, needless to say, keep your pieces modern! Furniture wise, mid-century pieces are perfect for this style.
WIDE PLANK FLOORS
Wide planks elevate the style factor of any room. The large size planks offer a timeless appeal that can anchor a room with a traditional or rustic decor or draw attention in a modern setting by contrasting with contemporary decorating elements.
NATURAL STATE
Rustic style embraces the natural state of things, Wood, stone, and natural textiles like burlap are plentiful. The modern rustics never forget the fifth wall: the ceiling. Wood-covered ceilings are quite popular, or big beams adorn the rustic space.
SCANDINAVIAN STYLE
Scandinavian homes have a pure, pare-backed style that is centered around warm functionality, clean lines, flawless craftsmanship and understated elegance.
LIGHT HARDWOOD
Wall to wall carpets never took off in Sweden. All truly Scandinavian interiors will contain lightly colored wooden floors in all rooms, with the exception of bathrooms.
LET IN THE LIGHT
The main goal for designers is to bring and maintain in the space as much natural light as possible. That's the reason for the usual absence of any window treatments. So tear down those curtains and let the light in!
BLANK CANVAS
Think white walls. Light floors. Bright white is the colour of choice in Scandinavia design then bring colours through the furniture and decor.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
The key pieces of furniture must have clean, simple lines as well as be neutral in color. As a result you will see a lot of grey lounges and natural colors.
INDUSTRIAL URBAN
Used to be that industrial wasn’t even a style – it was a focus on function. But somewhere along the way, we began to appreciate its lack of pretension and the visual appeal that lies within utilitarian surfaces, stripped-back architecture and salvaged objects.
HEAVY METAL
Choose 'cold' metals (not gold or brass) that have a matte finish or a kiss of patina. Industrial style is not about shine and sparkle - save that for your jewelry. And break up all the metal with other materials, such as wood or stone, to keep from feeling as though you live in a factory.
HISTORY UNDER YOUR FEET
Minimalism is key in terms of flooring choices. Concrete and stone work well. When choosing wood, go for a finish that is raw looking and full of character and texture. Rugs and carpeting can be used to dilute industrial's hard edge. If your tootsies are numb with cold, consider splurging on radiant heating beneath the floor.
FUNCTIONAL PIECES
Although homey, cushy furnishings can feel out of place. This doesn't mean you don't have to perch on metal stools or sleep on cots, either. Padded pieces should be simple and free of frills — nothing breaks the tension of industrial décor like an overstuffed wing chair or a tufted ottoman. Choose solid upholstery in natural textures and neutral colors
COASTAL ELEMENTS
Tropical interiors feel like a permanent vacation – they seem to slow time and quell the frantic pace at which most of us live. Bright and breezy, coastal style transports you straight to the beach no matter where you call home.
BRING THE JUNGLE INDOORS
Take away those lush green plants and brilliant blooms, and the tropics would feel more like the tundra. Use potted versions to breathe vigor and vibrancy into your home. You can stick with pure green foliage to limit the palette or mass together a tumble of blooms.
EXOTIC WOODS
Ipe, wenge, teak and other tropical woods are ideal for this style. Because tropical style is all about not trying too hard, you can mix and match as many species and tones as you like.
UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW
Simple, uncluttered windows are a must for an authentic tropical interior design look. Go for hard wood shutters, or wooden slatted blinds. Anything natural looking is good, so try roll-up bamboo blinds for a very tropical feel.
