Q&A: ENGINEERED FLOORS

Engineered hardwood flooring has a top layer of real hardwood glued onto a core made up of hardwood, plywood or HDF. Because of the real wood veneer, engineered floors express the natural characteristics of wood grain and species in contrast to laminate produced using a photographic layer. Engineered floors offer greater stability than traditional hardwood.

Engineered floors typically have three or more layers in their core. Generally, the more layers there are, the more stable the product. Pravada engineered floors have seven to nine core layers.

Since engineered floors have the same top layer of beautiful hardwood, you can achieve the same level of beauty with engineered floors.

Veneers or top layers of engineered floors are typically between 0.6mm and 4.5mm. Top quality veneers can provide many years of use and wear. Pravada engineered hardwood flooring has select or better grade veneers, are 2-4mm thick (depending on the collection) and all floors come with a 35-year finish warranty.

The stability or instability of hardwood floors is most commonly associated with moisture or temperature conditions. Under undesirable conditions, wood floors can warp, gap, swell, cup or crack. Since engineered floors are constructed using more layers, it is better able to counteract any expansion, shrinking or twisting experienced by the wood and will remain flat. This is one of the main reasons why engineered floors are used in below grade installation and over radiant heat.

Yes, most of Pravada’s engineered floors can be installed over radiant heating. However, be sure to never let floors exceed 85°F or 27°C and ensure floor temperature does not change more than one degree per day. Warning: Some species are not warranted over radiant heat. Please consult our warranty information for the most up to date radiant heat instructions.

Yes, both Pravada engineered tongue and groove installation and click-lock installation types can be installed on all grade levels including basements as well as over concrete slab. Ensure concrete slabs are properly cured and dried for at least 60 days prior to flooring installation and completely level. Before installing floors, perform a moisture test. Failure to complete adequate moisture testing could potentially void your warranty.

Yes. Keep in mind, approximately 95% of hardwood surfaces are never refinished. With advances in technology and hardwood surface finishes, damage is often spot removed by professionals. Professional sanding may result in a loss of 1/32 of an inch; therefore, with a 2mm veneer, you can sand 1-2 times. Refinishing floors will void the wear warranty.

Simply dry mop or vacuum. Wet mopping or using harsh abrasive cleaners on your floor can cause permanent damage and must be avoided. Wipe up any spills immediately. If needed, use a cleaner specifically designed for use with engineered wood flooring.

Pravada Engineered floors are coated with Endura finish and do not need to be waxed. Waxing your Pravada engineered floor can actually dull the finish and is not recommended.

Pravada engineered floors are eligible for FSC certification, meaning, they are made from material that has been sourced from responsibly-managed forests. More information regarding FSC certification can be found at www.fscus.org. Pravada engineered floors also follow and exceed CARB compliance standards.

Pravada engineered flooring must be acclimatized for at least 48 hours prior to installation in the room where the flooring is to be installed. This process helps wood flooring adjust and adapt to new environmental conditions and improve stability.

Q&A: LAMINATE FLOORS

No. Since laminate floors are constructed using a high quality, very high resolution printed image of wood, laminate floors cannot be refinished without damaging the design.

Although Pravada laminate floors are very resilient, durable and resist scratching, no floor is scratch-proof. Keeping pet claws trimmed will help prevent any damage to your floor.

Pravada laminate floors can be installed in virtually any room in the home or office, above or below grade and even over existing flooring with the exception of carpet. Laminate or any type of wood flooring is not recommended for use in moist areas such as bathrooms, saunas or outdoors.
